Effective 2026
Terms of service
By using this website you agree to these Terms. They are written to comply with North Carolina's Unfair and Deceptive Trade Practices Act (N.C.G.S. § 75-1.1), North Carolina's contractor licensing statute (N.C.G.S. Chapter 87), and the Buyer's Right to Cancel for home-solicitation sales (N.C.G.S. § 25A-39). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the site.
1. Who we are
This site is operated by Solarpunk Solutions, a solar installation business founded by Vance Mullis with partner Michael Hutchison (Business Operations / Executive VP). Our shop is located at 130 McKinney Cove Rd, Weaverville, North Carolina 28787.
2. Estimates are not contracts
Any solar estimate, equipment recommendation, savings projection, or install-cost range produced by this site is a non-binding estimate for informational purposes only. It is not a quote, proposal, or offer to contract. Final pricing, system design, and equipment selection require an on-site assessment and a separate written agreement signed by both parties.
3. Production and savings are estimates, not guarantees
Production projections on this site are modeled using publicly documented assumptions: a Western North Carolina baseline of approximately 1,350 kWh per installed kW per year (derived from NREL PVWatts for the Asheville area), industry-standard derating factors for roof orientation and shading, and a 3% annual utility rate-escalation assumption. Actual production and actual savings depend on your specific roof, weather, equipment performance, utility rate changes, and other factors. We do not guarantee any specific level of energy production, electricity-bill reduction, payback period, or return on investment. Representing otherwise would expose us to liability under N.C.G.S. § 75-1.1.
4. Federal Investment Tax Credit (IRC §25D) — terminated for residential systems
The residential clean energy credit under Internal Revenue Code § 25D was terminated for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025 by Public Law 119-21 (signed July 4, 2025). Residential installations completed in 2026 and beyond no longer qualify for the §25D credit. State and utility incentives may still apply. We do not provide tax advice; consult a qualified tax professional regarding your eligibility for any credit.
5. Equipment and workmanship warranties
Solar panels, inverters, batteries, and other equipment are warranted by their respective manufacturers under the terms in each manufacturer's warranty document. Solarpunk Solutions does not extend, alter, or guarantee these warranties. Workmanship warranties on the installation itself are provided through a separate written installation agreement at the time of contract signing.
6. Contractor licensing (N.C.G.S. Chapter 87)
Solar PV installation in North Carolina requires an Electrical Contractor license (N.C.G.S. § 87-43 et seq.) for the electrical work, and — for any project where the total cost of labor and materials is $40,000 or more — a General Contractor license (N.C.G.S. § 87-1 et seq.). License numbers and class will be disclosed in the written installation agreement. Where any phase of work is performed by a subcontractor, that subcontractor's license will also be disclosed.
7. Utility interconnection
Grid-tied and hybrid solar systems require interconnection approval from your electric utility, governed by the North Carolina Utilities Commission rules (see NCUC Rule R8-67 and related dockets). We will assist with the application, but utility approval, net-metering terms, and any buy-back rates are determined by the utility and the NCUC — not by Solarpunk Solutions. Interconnection timelines can vary from weeks to months.
8. Net metering (Duke Energy NC)
Duke Energy Carolinas / Progress's legacy “Bridge Rate” net-metering tariff (Rider NMB) is scheduled to close to new applicants on December 31, 2026. After that date, new residential rooftop customers are placed on Rider RSC (Residential Solar Choice), a time-of-use rate with critical-peak pricing. We will explain which tariff applies to your install based on its projected interconnection date.
9. Buyer's right to cancel (N.C.G.S. § 25A-39)
For any solar sale signed at your home, your workplace, or any location other than our normal place of business, North Carolina law gives you the right to cancel the contract until midnight of the third business day after the day on which you signed it. The written installation agreement will include a conspicuous Notice of Cancellation form. Failure to provide that notice extends the cancellation window indefinitely under N.C.G.S. § 25A-39(c).
10. No affiliation with utilities or government
Solarpunk Solutions is not affiliated with Duke Energy, the North Carolina Utilities Commission, the U.S. Department of Energy, the IRS, or any other utility or government agency. Any reference to utility tariffs, government programs, or tax provisions is for information only and does not imply endorsement or affiliation.
11. Acceptable use
You agree not to submit false information through this site, harass or impersonate other users, or interfere with the site's operation.
12. Intellectual property
The site's code, copy, and design are © Solarpunk Solutions unless otherwise noted. Manufacturer product names and logos are the property of their respective owners and are used here to describe products we install.
13. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by North Carolina law, Solarpunk Solutions is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of this website or reliance on any estimate produced by it. Our total liability for any claim relating to this website is limited to $100. This limitation does not waive your statutory rights under N.C.G.S. § 75-1.1 or other consumer-protection statutes that cannot be contractually limited.
14. Governing law and venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Buncombe County, North Carolina.
15. Changes
We may update these Terms. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
